Four Slide Crosshead
This ‘four slide crosshead tooling’ was made from hardened steel types, Gauge Plate (1.28), H13 inserts and slides, and capable of at least 1 million + castings.
The cross head was made from a cast iron block and then ground to a 5 micron tolerance. The tooling was created using a 3 axis Mazak for the inserts and dies and blocks, a 5 axis Hurco for the bolster, an Ops Ingersoll High Speed Eagle V created the electrodes to a 10 micron tolerance and an Ingersoll Gantry Eagle 400 EDM spark erosion machine ground all the sliding parts from 20 to 5 microns. The process was measured at all stages.
The tooling was completed in 10 weeks
